Alligator Hunt Underway in Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s annual alligator hunt is underway.

The Alabama Department of Conservation said 260 people received a tag that allows them to hunt an alligator during the limited season.

The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division has begun sharing photographs from this year’s hunt on its Facebook page.

The length of the season varies for each of four hunting zones. The season began Thursday in the southwest and west central zones and will last a few days.

Each year hunters apply to participate. Names are drawn by computer to receive an alligator possession tag.

During the 2014 season, a woman caught a record-setting 1,000-pound alligator that was more than 15 feet long.
